New Year, New You?

It’s that time of the year again. When we human being sit back and reflect on our lives thus far. We reminisce on what an awesome or shitty year it has been.

We reminisce on who came in and out of our live. We reminisce on our favorite actors or singers who have passed away. We reminisce on our goals and if we have accomplished them or not. We reminisce our down falls and how we will make a change for the better in the New Year.

Me personally, I love change. I love new. But I don’t love excuses. Especially when it comes to relationships and personal goals. But since I’m not Dr Phil, I will leave the relationship rant for the professionals.

Each and EVERY year there is in insurmountable amount of people that make New Year’s Resolutions. And not all, but many of those people repeat the same motto “Next year I’m going to do…”

My questions is what is the difference between starting a goal next year versus starting that goal now?

For years as a child growing up in Houston, TX, each New Year’s Eve, I would hear adults tell each other how the next year is going to be different. I hear the honesty and motivation in their voice about their new person they will become.

But when the New Year arrives, I continue to see them doing the same damn thing.

The same goes for my circle of friends. All the way from high school to post graduate, I’ve had many but not all friends who make these goals for themselves without ever following through with it.

If you know me or read this blog often, then you know all I ever believe for myself and the people around me is to go for your dreams. Like Uncle Nike has always taught us growing up, you gotta just do it. Trying and failing will always the better course of action than never trying at all.

So don’t ever let people dictate how you live your life. If you set a goal for yourself, don’t wait for the New Year or the right time to try reach for the star. Never let others doubt and hate pull you down.

Inevitably there will be haters, so let them hate. Like Drizzy Drake sings in his single Fake love;

“I got fake people showin' fake love to me..Straight up to my faaaaaaace, straight up to my faaaaaaaaace”

If you don’t like Drizzy, my bad, but that song cranks. I digress.

Anyhow, there will always be people wishing you luck to your face, but behind your back are hoping you fail. So I will repeat once again, never let anyone pull you down and make you doubt yourself. NEVER!

No matter what your goal is, start it today. Not in the New Year. It's not going to hurt you if you tried a little more now than later. So please never forget this one cardinal rule; time is the only luxury that we can never get back so why waste it. Happy Lifting!
