Why Pokemon Go CANNOT Actually Help You Get Fit

Within the last week alone, Pokémon Go has been the hottest of topics. Breaking straight records outchea, such as accumulating twice as many in-stalls as the popular one night stand app Tinder. Anyhow, over the last week or so, there has been some claims that Pokémon Go is not only a fun game that lures you in to highways and lakes, but it actually claims to gets you fit and active due to the excess walking you will accrue. But are those claims true?

Gotta Catch 'em all

If you have been living under rock, Pokémon Go is a mobile game built by Niantic that allows you to catch Pokémon in the real world. Just like so many others, this has been one of my dreams for over a decade+so I can not hate on anyone 25+ years old or more who currently play it.

It even has even become the number one most popular game in Nintendo history. According to Survey Monkey, the app is the biggest mobile game in U.S. history as measured by daily active users.

However, if you don’t know already, in order to hatch Pokémon eggs (The activity that causes you to do most of your walking around town) then you have to get your butt movin!

After you place your poke egg into an incubator, then you have to travel at least 2 km, 5 km, or 10 km to hatch it.  This literally forces you to walk around aimlessly in an effort to get your new Poké buddy.

But if you’re as smart as myself then you’ll figure out how to hack the system! A few hacks I have seen in use include:

1. Turn on your GPS and app while you are at the gym or zumba

2. Get moving! Take your butt outside and go for a run

3. Give your phone to a sibling, spouse, or roommate when they go for a run

4. Put your phone on the microwave turntable then proceed to turn it on

5. Leave your phone on a public bus or metro rail

(If you think those last two were actually real hacks, then you my friend are a dumbass.)

Anyhow, as much as I love Pokémon and this new game, I highly doubt you will get “in shape” playing this game alone. Unless you are literally walking dozen of kilometers a day in excess of what your current body expenditure is currently at.

Getting in shape takes more than just games. It takes lifestyle changes, it takes grit, it takes diet changes and the list goes on.

There is no better way to get fit and get your body right then by starting at a gym. Don’t be lazy and catch some gains the right way. Because flicking your finger 1000+ times a day just won’t get you where you want. But if you catch an Articuno, mew, or mew-two, then email me ASAP. Let’s be friends. Happy Lifting!
