Eating clean is probably one of the most simple topics to understand, yet people still cannot comprehend it. Yes it includes some sacrifice to your favorite foods but it has a far less chance of killing you than the processed foods and meat sold in the U.S. of A. So when you finally decide to take the plunge into a healthier eating lifestyle, then make sure you bookmark this here post.

What is Eating Clean?

This is a no-brainer. Eating clean is making sure that the food you eat is thoroughly washed with cold water before consumption.

Just kidding.

On a more serious note, eating clean involves not only choosing the right foods to consume but also avoiding all processed and junk foods that are so readily available.

With so many snicker bars and donuts in the world, eating clean definitely does sound like a sadistic form of deprivation to many of the foods that we love so dearly.

But, look on the bright side, eating clean has numerous benefits that process food cannot provide:

  • Eating clean allows us to maintain a healthy weight.
  • Maintaining a healthy weight will reduce the risk of several diseases (Cardiovascular diseases such as Stroke, Heart Disease,  Arrhythmia, High blood pressure etc)
  • Eating quality whole foods ensures that you get the most essential nutrients that your body needs.
  • If you didn't know, your body absorbs nutrients more efficiently from natural food than that of enriched products.
  • Whole foods have been known keep you satisfied longer, so you’re less tempted buy impulse items at 7 eleven.
  • Foods high in micro nutrients can help reduce cholesterol levels and regulate blood sugar.
  • Whole foods may have a higher source of fiber which will help keep your digestive system regular.
  • And keeping yourself regular will help keep your digestive tract flowing and be less impeding on your metabolism. Ahh SYNERGY.
  • Eating a healthy diet provides essential energy in order to workout harder and get gains faster.
  • And at the end of the day if your body feels good internally, then you feel good. That positive energy will translate into you being more likely to take better care of yourself and those around you.

The Challenge

Take the next 7 days, beginning right after you finish reading this post. Do the following:

  1. Go and measure your weight. Write it down.
  2. Go outside and jog 1 mile. Write down what time of the day you ranhow long it took, and from a scale of 1-10 how difficult it was.
  3. Go to your kitchen and remove, throw away, donate, or lock up any processed foods you have. That means all unhealthy and boxed snacks, boxed food, microwavable food, cans of soup, etc and get rid of it.
  4. Spend a little extra money this week on whole foods that you can cook in your kitchen. (If you are counting your calories, then this shouldn't be too hard for you)
  5. And just whip up some fun and healthy dishes for yourself, your spouse, or your family. Do this for lunch , breakfast, snack time, and dinner. For those who don't have the time, you should meal prep for the week.

At the end of the 7 days, I want you to go run that mile again at that exact same time of the day. Measure your results. And the compare your notes. then ask yourself these questions.
Was I more or less tired than last time?
Could I feel the difference in energy levels?
Did I lose any weight?
Could I have run further?
**Caveat For those who are active runners, this type of fitness test might not work with you for just 1 mile. If your endurance levels are already up, then try this challenge running the mile and not jogging it. Or jog for 3-5 miles and take your notes at that distance.

If you see a beneficial difference, then push yourself towards 30 days of clean eating, until you can wean yourself off of all processed foods that are holding you back from you fitness goals. Once again, Happy Lifting! #theFittest
