Another summer has come and gone. Summer shorts, sun dresses and bikinis have been laid to rest somewhere deep in your closet. The temperature outside has dropped (Unless you live in heat year round) and fall has coming knocking at your door. Before you know it, the winter snow storms will be here, and there will be know opportunity for you to run away. And lets not even forget what comes with winter. Nothing but a great blissful time for your belly and your body to feast over the winter holiday season. So even though the season is working against our fitness goals in some parts of the country, we must stay sacrifice, we must stay on track, we must stay motivated.
Do NOT let this define you in the winter |
Winter is almost here. Like most people out there, I despise the cold that winter brings with it.
The cold is often a
burden for many of us over here on the east coast (Minus sunny a** Florida).
Cold weather has been known to keep many of us consistent gym goers home. Stuck.
Filling our time eating or watching hours upon hours of Netflix.
The sedentary life is
clearly not the fittest of lifestyles and has been known to be a “Gainz killer.”
Especially for those who don’t stay properly motivated through these bitter cold
winter months. And as you all may know by now, motivation comes in waves.
Another reason that
makes winter such a burdensome season is because of all the friggin holidays.
Thanksgiving, Christmas, Boxer's day, the Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day,
Yule, Hanukkah, etc.
And what do all those
holidays bring with them? If you guessed a massive amount of alcohol and food, then
you my friend are a mind reader. During winter it becomes terribly hard to
resist the urges of so many empty and non-needed calories into your system.
So to stay motivated and
combat the increased calories you will be entering your body this upcoming
season, check out the following list below on how to stay motivated as winter's return:
1.Remind yourself on what your goal originally was
Obviously there is some underlying reason that you picked up weights in the first place. Or started that aqua yoga class down at your local gym. Do your best to remember and keep in the limelight what pushed you over the edge.2. Become one with the cold
Ok so it’s getting cold outside, we get it. But just because it’s cold outside, it doesn’t mean that you can’t take advantage of the frigid weather. Working out outside can produce cause your body to go through cold thermogenesis. Meaning that your body will burn brown adipose tissue (fat) as an energy source to keep your body warm and alive. And essentially burning calories. It may not be at the same rate as if you were doing vigorous exercising, but it is better than sitting on your couch.3. Join winter leagues
Indoor leagues are abundant. Join a coed volleyball, basketball, or soccer club. Indoor leagues are literally in every city. Yes, there may be a feee, but it keeps you active and feeling young.4. Warm up inside
You want to go out for a jog and realize that it’s chilly and windy out. That’s ok! Take the time to properly warm up inside your house for 15-20 minutes. You will feel the difference in your run versus you trying to warm up outside.5. Get a swolemate
Working out with a partner is always motivating. No matter what season of the year it is, I will always recommend you working out with a swolemate. They keep you motivated and will always encourage you to get one more rep in even if it is assisted.6. Snow sprints
Never heard of snow sprint before I’m sure. It is what it sounds like, running in snow. The snow creates resistance and makes it tough for you to get going. But I’d only recommend doing this when the snow is fresh, not higher than your knee, and not iced over.7. “Control yo self “
What does that mean you might be asking because you’re always in control right? Well when that snowstorm hits and you are at home with a 30 pack of Natty and a day old pizza with a few friends, it is only natural to make the best out of the situation. This is when sacrifice is crucial. You must have control. Don’t let your vices and impulse rule over your domain.8. Imagine all the weight you will have to work off in the spring
Need I say more? Gaining weight in the winter is common. And if you want to avoid all the working out and dieting you will need to do in the spring to look and feel the way you think is best, then it is better to be preemptive and stick to your workout regimen as best as you can. Even if that means walking through a blizzard to get to your gym. Well maybe not all that, but you get the point.
